Dawn Prentiss is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer and owner and proprietor of Semper Fido. Dawn teaches group dog
training classes and conducts private behavioral consultations in Brooklyn and NYC. Dawn believes that an early
education for dogs and puppies can make all the difference in having a well-mannered family dog, rather than a stress
and annoyance. She stresses rules and structure for dogs and families as routine implemented in a non-confrontational
way. She believes training and having a dog should be fun and structures her classes and privates with easy exercises that
can be incorporated into you and your dog's daily routine.
In addition to private dog training lessons and dog behavior consultations, Dawn teaches puppy classes, obedience classes
and dog agility classes. Dawn is a former trainer for the Good Dog Foundation, preparing therapy dog teams for hospital
visits. Dawn volunteers at the "Ask the Trainer" booth at the Mayor's Alliance Adoption Events in Brooklyn. She also writes
articles for their e-newsletter "Out of the Cage". She is an AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator. In her spare time, Dawn is
training her Sheltie, Whisper and border collie, Shasta for dog agility, competitive obedience and rally obedience. She
also frequently attends seminars and conferences, to further her education in the dog-training field.
Dawn is a former manager in the film and television industry. Since 1989 she worked for such companies as Miramax and
October Films. In November of 2001 she left her job at sports broadcasting staple IMG/TWI to pursue her love of training
dogs and their owners. Dawn shares her life with partner Matthew, dogs Zoe, CGC and Whisper,AX, AXJ, AD, CGC, Shasta
and cat Mango.
In February 2007, Dawn opened Semper Fido's Dog Training School in Prospect Heights/Clinton Hill section of Brooklyn and
is pleased to announce a move to Park Slope location in February 2008. The school is one of the only dedicated family
dog training spaces in NYC. The expanded services, in addition to puppy and obedience classes, include agility, tricks
and classes in Spanish.
Dawn is actively training and competing in agility with her Shetland Sheepdog, Whisper, AX, MXJ, AD, CGC and her new
addition, border collie Shasta, NA,NAJ
